Gardening in Small Spaces?

Try some of these varieties which are especially suited to small growing areas, as well as containers:

  • French Filet Bush Bean "Cupidon", 55 days. A gourmet delight. String-less, 6-8" pods are grown on 18-22" plants. Very productive over a long season. Brown seeds.

  • Soybean Edamame "Sayamusume", 85 days. 2 ft ht. A consistent high yielder. Your taste buds will thank you for the nutritious taste adventure. 3 to 4 light green seeds per pod.

  • Chard "Bright Lights", Hybrid, 55 days. Bright green leaves with veins & stalks in vibrant shades of pink, orange, white, yellow, purple & red. Tender & mild. An excellent source of Vitamins A & C.

  • Cucumber "Bush Crop", 55 days. Bushy plant with short 2-3 ft. vines produces full size slicing cukes! Fruit is crisp & juicy with good flavor. Great for small spaces or containers.

  • Cucumber "Homemade Pickles", 54 days. The short 2-3 ft. vines are vigorous & prolific & work well in small spaces. Crisp texture & good flavor. Pick small for gherkins, medium size for dill spears or large for bread & butter pickles. Good eating fresh, too.

  • Eggplant "Black Beauty" Heirloom, 83 days. Broad, thick, attractive fruits on sturdy, tall, upright plants. Good flavor a quality. Grow in as little a space as 1 sq. foot.

  • Snow Pea "Dwarf White Sugar, 50 days. Very early, heavy & long harvests from compact vines. Tender & sweet flat pods. Stringless when picked young.

  • Sweet Pepper "Buran" Polish Heirloom, 89 days. This is one of the sweetest peppers you can grow. The 18-24" plants produce lots of 3 lobed fruit that are about 4" long & 3" at the shoulder.

  • Sweet Cherry Pepper Mini Bells Hybrid F1, 65 days. Its earliness, yield, & flavor distinguish this prolific pepper. Compact plants are ideal for pots or small gardens. The bright green changes to red earlier than others.

  • Pumpkin "Spirit" F1 Hybrid, 99 days. A very early pumpkin which is semi-bush and can be grown in limited space, but the fruits are full sized weighing 10-15 lbs.

  • Summer Squash "Papaya Pear", 40 days. The semi-bush plant yields lots of yellow skinned fruit that are shaped like a papaya or pear. Harvest when fruit is about 3" long. Fun for kids to grow.

  • Squash Golden Zucchini, open pollinated, 55 days. This bush plant produces bright gold, cylindrical fruits. Great for small space gardens or containers.

  • Zucchini Squash "Space Miser" Hybrid, 45 days. Produces regular size, delicious zucchini on small plants. Outstanding in small spaces--tuck it into a flowerbed or plant in a container.

  • Tomato "Siletz" Hybrid, V/DET, 57 days. The earliest large-fruited tomato! Sturdy compact plants produce full-flavored, deep red, 12-16 oz fruit in spite of cool springs & slow seasons.

  • Tomato "Bush Early Girl" Hybrid, 60 days. Determinate. Compact, bush-type plant yields large harvest of firm, meaty, flavorful, bright red fruit. A good choice of small spaces or containers.

  • Tomato "Burbank" Heirloom, 70-80 days. Determinate. A 1915 introduction from plant genius Luther Burbank. Fruity & slightly tart. Stocky 18-36" bush gives good yields & needs no trellising.

  • Cherry Tomato "Tumbling Tom", Hybrid, 70 days. This weeping-form trails up to 2 ft from hanging basket and studded with 1"-2" bright red fruit. Looks as good as it tastes.

  • Tomato "Tiny Tim" Open Pollinated, 50 days. Determinate. A small 10-18" variety great for container growing. A high yielding tomato that's both decorative and delicious.

  • Tomato Yellow Currant, 75 days. Indeterminate. These tiny tomatoes are not much larger than a fingertip. Very intense tomato flavor.

  • Tomato Red Currant "Mini Pearls" Hybrid F1, 74 days. Indeterminate. A cocktail tomato that is full of flavor. A bite size tomato, borne in clusters which is suitable for pot culture.
